  • Description:

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 10 December 1948 at the Palais de Chaillot, Paris, arose directly from the experience of the Second World War and represents the first global expression of rights to which all human beings are inherently entitled.

An abbreviated, concise summary of the Universal Declaration is presented against the visual background of stunning pieces of arts enshrined in the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Following Dag Hammarskjold’s death, the Staff of the United Nations set up a Committee and a Foundation to provide a “living memorial” to the late Secretary-General. The Committee invited artist Marc Chagall to contribute a piece of his work to the memory of Dag Hammarskjold and to all those who had lost their lives in the cause of peace
